I booked a room at the Sofitel with one Queen size bed to enjoy during the day and let the children sleep at night for a few hours while my wife and I spent time at the hotel’s ****** until our 3am departure time to catch our flight to the US. Our goal was to not sleep at night in Montevideo and sleep instead during our entire 13 hour flight combo to Los Angeles, CA to avoid jetlag.
Upon our arrival, the hotel management insisted that we purchase a second room because per their policy, two adults and two children could not stay in one room no matter the circumstances. It should not be up to hotel management to decide how I want to spend the night with my family.
I have never experienced such strictness and rude attitude anywhere I have travelled. Even though I am fluent in Spanish, it is not my primary language. I still did my best to explain the reason why I chose to book one room instead of two, to no avail.
We were given a separate room, not connected to ours, for our two daughters. My daughters' room had a connecting room not belonging to us, and even though I asked for that door to be locked, it didn't happen. We had to place our luggage in front of the door to avoid an unwanted intrusion.
We arrived at the hotel around 11am. There was not a single restaurant that offered any kind of food at that time of day. Our only available option was to order food to our room. Overall, a horrible experience that shattered my opinion on the Sofitel brand.
