Chequers Inn by Greene King Inns

Lovely food, friendly staff, warm atmosphere and great price. Nothing was too much trouble, the restaurant is cosy and comfortable. The food was full of flavour and all came out well presented. I would fully recommend dinner and desert. One of our favourite places to Dine out.

The Chequers Hotel was a brilliant stay on all fronts. We had a lovely, well decorated large clean room on the 1st floor. The views of the church and the gatehouse were great. We had dinner in the hotel 3 nights and the food was very tasty. There was a bit of a wait on one evening but we received a quick apology about that. The staff in the bar, restaurant, and at breakfast were brilliant. Professional, friendly, and natural. This bit stood out for me. The range of items for breakfast was impressive the food was good but could just do with a bit more seasoning. We made a mistake in that we wanted to stay 3 nights but only booked 2. The manager dealt with this really professionally and booked in our extra night with a quick phone call. We had a really lovely stay and I would thoroughly recommend The Chequers to anyone.

Booked a 2 night break here for my partner and myself. Staff are very helpful and friendly, very welcoming at book in and throughout our stay. Room and bathroom were both clean with good facilities. Floor boards creaky but to be expected in an old building. Breakfast selection very good with both cooked and continental selections. We had dinner both nights in the restaurant, again service was excellent and food was delicious. We would definitely book here again, perfect for a quiet getaway.

Haven’t been here for a while so took the family for a meal tonight. It was nice to see the place busy. The staff were very friendly. We were served quickly. They did warn us there would be a slight wait on food, which we didn’t mind as we hadn’t booked. One of our party had food allergies but there was still a lot of choices for them which was great. My children loved the new children’s menu, and so did I as we didn’t have to pay adult prices for them to enjoy their favourites (Mac and cheese and hunters chicken on this occasion!) The two mains and two drinks for £25 really helped to reduce the bill too which I’m hoping me and my hubby will be able to take advantage of next date night, without the children. We might even book a room as the couple next to us were telling us how nice theirs was. We were also very impressed to see they have a dog menu and my daughter is excited to bring our fury family member next time. When food came it was piping hot and delicious. We will definitely be coming here again, although we will try and make sure to book. Will also try and check out their events that are advertised, especially the Easter egg hunt this weekend. My partner and I are very interested in the Mr and Mrs event we were told is coming up next month! Lol

Went for Sunday lunch with my parents & our dogs; as always there was a warm welcome for both 2 & 4 legged guests. Dad had the roast beef & was delighted. Beef cooked perfectly & everything well cooked. Mum opted for the fish and chips; the batter was crispy & the fish moist, big piece of fish & plenty of chips. The only reason I’m not giving 5* is cause with a reduced menu on Sunday, my 2 favourites weren’t available, but that’s more me being a fussy eater!

Check-in at the bar was a breeze and my first impression of the room was good, we booked a superior room. A large room overlooking the road at the front, road noise was not a problem. People smoking outside the front of the pub was a bit annoying as opening the window allowed the strong smell of smoke to enter the room. The room was very warm so I turned the radiator down. The bathroom was clean and bright except the towel rail didn't heat up and a pipe joint was wet and corroded, I suspect that the radiator was full of air and needed maintenance and the sink had a hairline crack. There was a glass holder with no glass, the shower was strong and had copious hot water. We ate in the restaurant my food was ok my wife's hunters chicken was dry and hard. The problem with the room was the creaking floorboards in our room and the room above were quite annoying, especially during the night when my wife got up during the night the creaking boards woke me up and later when I needed the bathroom I woke her up (beer & age). Oh and take slippers because of the old oak floorboards. Breakfast was the normal hotel fare nothing special, and the coffee provided in a pump flask was only warm. Would I stay here again? Maybe.

Lovely big room nice furniture and fittings very comfortable bed no dust or dirt. The bath room light clean with the worlds most powerful shower wow more of a high powered jet wash amazing didn’t want to get out of it and the water made my hair really soft to touch win win

Very friendly, children and their mess are welcome , nice food , good atmosphere . The staff are very good . We have used there function room for a baby shower and a christening, delicious choice of party food , everyone enjoyed the party’s , and reasonably priced

Okay place to stay for an overnight visit. Large room with comfortable king size bed. Good value but shabby in places and room had extractor fan noise which was on until late evening and back on at 8am waking us in the morning from what we guessed was the kitchen. Directly opposite the village church.
