Rooms at the Apple Pie

We had a fab stay here recently whilst my husband was taking part in an Ultramarathon around Windermere (!). The location is perfect for the centre of Ambleside, with the fabulous bakery & cafe next door. The car park outside the front of the property was full but there was a big public carpark very close by so parking was no problem at all. The room was just what we needed, clean and had a very comfy bed! The tea and coffee making facilities were great - with filter coffee available and an added surprise of some of the delicious Gingerbread from the bakery! The staff were lovely and so helpful. We're looking forward to returning to this hotel....for a more relaxing break next time!

I stayed here in room 2 for two nights while on business. The welcome was friendly with a late check-in self-service option for those that might need it. The property is maintained to a high standard, with comfortable bed, quality furnishings and a clean modern en-suite. Breakfast is not included, but guests receive a 10% discount off at the Apple Pie Cafe next door. I am due to stay again in a weeks time, and I am looking forward to it.

Awesome spot managed to get the attic I think very popular spot. Clean quirky and comfortable- as it is the attic “ bend don’t bump” signs are welcome . Awesome roof window that initially didn’t work but was sorted promptly Great staff great location limited parking . Once we parked we were not moving

Lovely place but stay spoilt by poor communication Checked in then told receptionist we were going out to watch the football Came back to letter under door asking car to be moved by 8 am the following am We had had a couple of drinks so not able to move the vehicle that night Partner very particular re driving as its his job morning after so my birthday meal out was spoilt as he knew he would have to be up early to move his car Had we been able to check out at 10 am he could have had a couple of wines and relaxed Message was sent before 3 pm so not sure why they didnt email or ring so car could have been moved before we went out Spoilt what should have been my birthday meal Email sent but no reply to say how disappointed we were but no reply Told the receptionist as we left apologised but that was it and then said resurfacing was cancelled anyway I give up

We stayed in the loft at the apple pie .( Separate to the hotel , and above their bakery ) . It was room 34 , up a couple of flights of stairs. We had 3 nights in this stunning location. Our room view was of the fells in the background and the famous little house over the river by some courtyard eating areas just below us . The huge window and a couple of well placed chairs made for the perfect place to sit and relax . You purchased breakfast in their cafe ( discount with room key ) . What a stunning plate of food . I can't wait to return .

This was our second stay here with the previous being in November 2021. On both occasions we were in room 5. We were here for 3 nights this time. Although no room to park on arrival, we were directed to use a parking area allocated to the guest house which was less than a 5 minute walk away. We were greeted in a friendly manner and orientated to the facilities. Our room was on the first floor, accessed via a steep and narrow stair case. Our room had a double (?king sized bed) which was very comfortable. The heating could be adjusted by altering the settings on the radiator. However, the radiator was blocked in by the wardrobe. The room is small, with only one chair, but this was adequate for us as we were only in the room to sleep. The WIFI was good, as good as at home. There was a kettle in the room with sachets of coffee and different types of teas and infusions. Additionally, there was a cafetiere and “proper coffee.” I note the presence of the ginger biscuits from the Apple Pie bakery, but we didn’t try this. Fresh milk was available 24 hours/day from the fridge on the ground floor along with an “honesty” jar for crisps and other drinks. Also in the room were x2 wine glasses. In the bathroom was shower/body wash and hand wash. The bathroom contained toilet, basin and shower cubicle. The bathroom was very narrow with a heated towel rail. Towels and a tidy up of the room could be requested by leaving a sign on the room handle to indicate the request to staff. Otherwise, your room would be left untouched during the stay. Other facilities included the offer to use a drying room on the ground floor to store wet clothing, shoes etc. The room suffered from condensation with rivers of moisture running down the window each morning, however the room didn’t display any signs of damp or mould. This is a room only facility, though breakfast can be obtained at a 10% discount from the adjacent bakery/cafe on presentation of your room key to staff. This opens at 9am which was fine for our leisurely stay. This added £20/day approximately to our stay. Overnight, the sound of other visitors could easily be heard moving about in other rooms. We could manage this by using ear plugs. Would stay in this well located facility again.

We had stayed at Apple Pie before so booked again. On this visit we had an attic ‘room’ which was extremely claustrophobic. Up a very steep and tight of stair we finally reached the roof rooms. Side by side. Our room welcome was an extremely low half arch. I’m 5’7 my husband 6’. I had to bend and avoid the step to get in, no mean feet whilst carrying a small suitcase. At the other side it got no better. The room was cramped and the ceiling was extremely and uncomfortably low. We could only stand at the mid section. There were beans on the ceiling that you had to bend further to avoid. This was not an experience we will repeat as after bumping our heads constantly it was unacceptable but there was no one to address this with as you get a closed window with a box for your keys when you leave. There is plenty of choice for accommodation in Ambleside and I’m afraid I would not return even if it was free. We also had to park quite a bit away as they only have 5 tight car park spaces & another 3 offsite a fair walk away with the hassle of carrying luggage from car to Apple Pie & parking in Ambleside is not cheap.

We had a lovely stay. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and had character. The tea and coffee facilities were particularly good, with a cafetiere in the room, and fresh milk always available in a fridge downstairs. Breakfast was not included, but the Apple Pie cafe next door, part of the same organisation, did superb breakfasts. I would recommend their toasted bath buns. My wife and I were in a double room at the top of the house, and there are some low beams so we had to be careful not to bump our heads. Our friends were on the first floor and had more headroom! They have electrical vehicle chargers which we were glad to use.

A warm welcome for us and our dog. Excellent location, room very clean with some Nice touches such as gingerbread, fresh coffee for the cafetière and fresh milk from the fridge. Great value for a stay in the centre of Ambleside. Would recommend for a short stay in the Lake District
