Lankavatara Ocean Retreat & Spa

Ik kon slechts één nacht in dit prachtige hotel verblijven, maar alles, van het informatieve en behulpzame inchecken tot het heerlijke eten van het restaurant, was top! Ik kreeg twee keer een massage in hun mooie kleine spa (ook redelijk geprijsd) en at twee dinermaaltijden en ontbijt in hun restaurant - het was allemaal van uitstekende kwaliteit, lekker en vers. Het personeel was zo vriendelijk en behulpzaam en hielp me bij mijn transportbehoeften buiten het gebied. De kamers zijn supercomfortabel, schoon en mooi ingericht. Natuurlijk is het iets meer, maar je krijgt waar je voor betaalt! Geweldige keuze op een prachtig afgelegen strand in Sri!

Our second visit to Lankavatara SPA Hotel surpassed our expectations! Returning after a year, we were greeted by the same serene beach, the warmth and hospitality of the Sri Lankan staff, and notably improved culinary experiences courtesy of the kitchen team. Our room nr. 8 (Front ocean view) was as clean and well-maintained as a year ago. Anousha – the best masseuses in the world – still works at the SPA, and the overall vibe of the hotel is as relaxed but attentive as before. It seems the kitchen staff has changed, so the consistency, flavours and quality of food of the main restaurant have massively improved. Unfortunately, the beach did suffer some erosion during the heavy rains of the 2023 winter months, causing parts of it to collapse and wash away. This is a regrettable occurrence, not only for the natural beauty of the area but also for the local fishermen who now face increased challenges during their daily fishing trips. However, despite these changes, the wilderness experience remains unspoiled—the empty golden beach stretches endlessly. We loved it here, and highly recommend the hotel to other travellers.

Lankavatara is situated about 30 minutes from Tangalle, in Kalametiya. The resort is beautiful and the rooms were clean and spacious. Staff was friendly and helpful. The meals were delicious too. It really is the best looking hotel in the area! There is beach access from the hotel but it was advised not to swim by the staff, which was slightly disappointing. But overall a good place to relax.

We chose this hotel on purpose because we loved its position! Not so many people, not in the city, just a big empty beach, and one this smaller hotel, quiet, ideal place to relax! We stayed here in Novembere 2023 as group of 5 people and we were relaxing there after traveling around Sri Lanka and I have to say we really rested here. The location is really like in paradise! The hotel is comfortable, airy, cleand and everybod was so nice. The best place to relax. One group had a room for 3 people on the ground floor and it was really huge room, with beautiful bathroom and kitchen supllies. The other group had a room for 2 people on the first floor. The room was also so clean and beautiful. Every day we were treated to cleaning, change of towels. The hotel is really located on the beach, where you can hear the sound of the waves as you fall asleep. The beash is empty, only sand and palmtrees. There is still a red flag on the beach, NO LIFEGUARD and swimming here is not suitable. The waves are really big and have and they have a reverse current. Sometimes we jumped in the waves, but only our group. The pool is ideal place for swimming. The hotel also offers excursions or you can try wellness in the hotel. We went for a massage and we were really satisfied. You can try cooking class in the restaurant opposite the hotel. It seems to me that there is not much around the hotel, but it is true that we did not explore it because we were only staying for 3 days. But the reception will arrange anything for you. :) We paid for breakfast and it was really delicious. You can pick breakfast from the menu - you can have eggs, granola, porridge, pancakes. Everytime you get fruits plate. We also went there for lunch or dinner and we tried tuna, curry, kottu, fried rice etc. and everytime we were satisfied. :)

Good hotel and friendly staff. The rooms are modern and nice. The restaurant is ok. If you are looking for a quit place this is it. There is absolutely nothing close. You will have miles and miles of beach all by yourselves. Good to know is that you can not swim in the ocean because there is to big waves. Ni restaurants close so you have to way on the hotel.

Wonderful place, food and people. Will definately come back! ❤️ Looks like paradise, feels like paradise. My husband and I stayed for 9 days. We travel a lot, and this was one of our all-time high experiences. Would highly recommend the spa too.

Excellent hotel with incredible view on the ocean! Spacious and clean rooms. Bfast included and very very generous! Food was very good too! The staff is very courteous and helpful. It’s a little secluded and you will need to either rent a car or hire taxis if you want to visit around. Can only recommend this place !

Definitely the gem of our total Sri Lanka experience. Amazing room design, colors and lights. Felt very positive vibe. Nearby beach is beautiful, great for walking. The property gave us the biggest suite they have as a free upgrade.

I will preface this by saying the hotel management did refund some of my stay! I checked in at 5pm and had to check out by 9pm because I was that disappointed.. the room was literally opposite the community pool and it seems all rooms are so there is no privacy. The menu just isn’t good enough, there are very few options for kids and any decent dishes need 3 hours notice so we didn’t have much options after checking in at 5pm. The room has a big step across the floor making it unsafe for young kids. The one restaurant on the property is on the first floor and has a loose rope around the edge making it unsafe for kids. I don’t recommend this hotel if you have young kids but it works for couples and people on a budget. The final straw for me was the receptionist who was on the phone the entire time during check in and then every time we spoke to him was on the phone. I gave him a bag of laundry to clean at 6pm, after being disappointed by the hotel I went back to reception to get the bag back at 7pm and the bag of laundry was sitting in the middle of reception, where guests sit. It hadn’t been moved by the receptionist for 1 hour and was sitting in the communal area of the lobby for one hour. Anyone could have taken it. The kids chair was also filthy
