Guesthouse Holmur

Holmur Farm was an excellent place to stay along the ring road near Hofn. The family who run the lodge and restaurant are extremely warm and inviting. The soup at the restaurant was the best I’ve had in Iceland. I highly recommend Holmur Farm!

This is a guesthouse in a farm. Our rooms were clean and simple. The bathrooms are shared by several rooms. The parking is very easy. The food was okay although the choice was extremely limited : there was soup and a single dessert option. The staff is quite friendly and accommodating. It's a nice place for a short stay.

The only reason it isn’t a 5 is that you don’t have your own bathroom or shower but, we were in the one-story in a nice room with a full window facing the mountains and fields. We were there in the summer and although the curtains weren’t “black-out” they made a difference. Bring earplugs for the confused chickens & roosters that can’t figure out sunrises;). This is a working farm. The attached restaurant Ron Tiki, provided all you can eat soup and fresh bread; lamb soup, one of the best seafood soups I’ve ever had and I can’t remember option 3. I kept going back for more seafood soup. Breakfast was the standard Icelandic fare of cold options.

Stayed one night on a ring road tour. There are two buildings with rooms. One had two stories, 6 bedrooms, two bathrooms. The other is one story, but as I stayed in the two story building I am not sure of the setup. Main floor of the building had a kitchen area. No shoes in the housing buildings, though not all guests seemed to follow that. Room was decent sized, hairdryer provided in room. Shared bathrooms were fine, the one on the first floor had a more enclosed shower, I could see that the second floor with only a shower curtain could get wet. On site restaurant served dinner and breakfast, and its own brewed beer (two were on tap when I was there, plus one nonalcoholic). Breakfast, which was included in the price, had the standard cold options. Depending on your room (and the weather) you can see the glacier from your window.
