The garden at Hotel O'tai is overflowing with hibiscus, bougainvillea and roses. The front desk is open air - beyond it the diningroom with outdoor and indoor seating areas; a small path takes you to the hotel bungalows, each room with a separate entrance, two deck chairs and a view of the pool in the centre of the garden. It's gorgeous. Breakfasts were good. The staff went out of their way to help us, even making a long distance call to a car rental place in Patagonia on our behalf because our Spanish was inadequate to the task. Tours arranged from the front desk arrived promptly and were excellent. Easter Island is tropical, full of history and spectacular Moai and lots of competent tour guides to teach you about it. Restaurants nearby offer a variety of seafood - lots of fresh tuna ! (But there are other options.) There are free-range chickens and roosters (and cats, lol) at the hotel- which may be disconcerting to some - but they weren't a bother at all. The hotel is 2 minutes' walk from the ocean. You can rent a car but unless you're keen to explore on your own, it isn't necessary. You can't get car insurance on the island (just what your credit card might provide) and the tour companies will take you everywhere. You may still need a PCR test to get to Easter Island. (We did as of Dec 2022) Check with the only airline that flies there, Latam Airlines, although they are almost impossible to reach, so then check with a travel agent. They should know.
