Ganora Guest Farm, Camping and Excursions

I loved the quiet, friendly setting. There are several walks accessible from the farm. The area is known for a very special geological history. The evening fossil talk provided many insights into a time period I had never heard of. The information was informative and presented in an entertaining way that kept everyone interested. The room was very clean, the linen exceptional. I particularly enjoyed the historical farmhouse (built in 1776) where meals were served. The staff was very helpful in answering questions and providing customized meals.

Two night stay at this lovely working sheep farm. The guest rooms are beautifully presented and the food was divine. Dinner is served in a lovely communal dining room with old farm tools & photos on the walls and wagon wheels for chandeliers! Breakfast is in the main house dining room - I loved the stewed fruits! The Owl Route lived up to its name with 3 owls sighted on the drive in. The nearby town of Nieu Bethesda is very cute and locals friendly.

The Karoo in South Africa is known for it's hospitality, so it's no wonder that Ganora more than fits into that category. There are not enough words to describe this truly wonderful Guest House, Ganora. JP, Hester, Ollie and Lulu do everything in their power to make your stay one to remember. Peaceful, serene, hospitable, helpful, excellent food and wonderful weather are a few words to describe Ganora. Definitely add to bucket list as a must do, you won't be disappointed.

A very nice and relax logde near Graaff Reinet. It's an old farm, transformed to a great guesthouse. Really good food and nice, beautiful rooms. Everything is nice and clean. A very nice and good bed. Free coffee- and tea facilities in the room. You have your own shower which is originally decorated. Some rooms have a fan on the roof. Others have a table-fan. If possible you can help feeding the lambs. There is a nice and fresh swimmingpool. Towels are available. The owner has a beautiful collection fossils and can tell a lot about it. He is also a very very good braai-er :) Don't be scared for the dogs, they are very cute.

This review is relatively objective being my 17th road trip encompassing 18 properties over a 43 night period. I stayed solo for 2 nights in March. Easily found in an idyllic location from the main gravel road - farm road was in decent condition. Friendly and efficient check in from Annika and the staff. I didn’t meet the owners. Large, comfortable and clean room in an adjacent building, 30 seconds walk from the lovely old school farmhouse. No aircon in the room, but despite the 35+ heat it remained cool throughout due to high ceilings and the really old thick walls. The early pioneers knew exactly what they were doing! Meals to a good standard were served in the atmospheric dining room of the main farmhouse. The grounds around the farmhouse have been maintained to a very pleasant/high standard and were so relaxing reading a book in the shade of a lovely old tree. Unlike other properties that advertise walking/hiking trails - these trails were clearly marked and easily followed. For those not quite so mobile I’d suggest checking that the route selected doesn’t include locked gates which have to be climbed over. I managed - just! Decent WiFi. The adjacent camp site looked well equipped and maintained. Highly recommended

Beautiful farm. Peaceful. Interesting busman paintings. Henry is a very good guide and explains everything nicely. Very good people's personality. The fossils is also very interesting. Would next time definitely like to spent mòre time, on the farm. The farm have an rich history.

On Saturday 17th February 2024, the Camdeboo Hiking Club from Graaff-Reinet spent a glorious day at Ganora Guest Farm. They have a choice of 6 trails; we combined two relatively short ones that took us up a small hill, through the veld and past some lucern lands, before cutting down to the river, with a lovely stroll through a shady poplar grove. Back at the farm house, we were given an interesting talk on Ganora’s amazing fossil and Khoisan artifacts collection, and also shown the ancient rock art in a shelter nearby. JP and Hester Steynberg were the perfect hosts, as always.

Sweet family et wonderful place, one of the most beautiful landscape i ever saw ! If you like nature and big spaces you’ll probably fall in love just like me ! You can be surrounded by animals (Helen and the lambs ♥️), indeed they also have a license for animal rehabilitation. There is plenty of choices of hikes, mountain bikes availables, a pool, good food and nice rooms ! Thanks again Hester and JP for your warm welcome

Our hosts, the Steynberg family, were so friendly and helpful. The farm and farmhouses are beautiful. We stayed 2 nights and didn't want to leave. We will definitely come back as we didn't yet have the time to do the scenic hikes on the farm. The fossils talk by expert Mr Steynberg, and the rock art, were really interesting. Loved the farm sounds and sights around us. The cottage was comfortable, spacious and everything worked. The electric blankets and heater kept us cozy and warm. Breakfasts in the historic Karoo farmhouse and a close drive to Nieu Bethesda made this a perfect stay. I fell in love with this part of the Karoo. Highly recommended. I will go back any time.
