Madeira Panorâmico Hotel

One of the main reason why I booked this 4 star hotel was that it said it had a large space gym area as mentioned before booking, so I assumed it being a 4 start Hotel it will have decent weights and machines. However, when I arrived, the gym didn’t have a pull-up bar or a cable machine, the dumbbell weights were very basic that went up to only 10 kg. That is absolutely disappointing considering this was a 4 start Hotel. To be honest the multiuse cable machine is pretty much all you need as it has everything to be exercise all your body parts! I love my pullups hence I had to find a way to do them so I found a metal gate just outside the gym in the tennis court believe it or not I used the gate frame to do my pullups (see picture). Another downfall is that it didn’t have a water fountain in the gym area. You had to go up to the reception and buy bottle of water for €2. Good luck to those who suffer from quick dehydration. I expected the room to have a kettle which you wouldn’t think twice whether it will have it or not. But guess what? You have to pay extra to have a kettle in your room during your stay between €5 to €7. That’s just jokes, I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry! Other than that, the staff were very friendly and the location is close to the sea, and approximately 11 minutes drive to the main city area in Funchal. I’d say the breakfast is good, but the same time pretty standard what you would get in a 3 star hotel. I was expecting better variety. The breakfast is always the same every day. Hardly never changes. However, the dinner menu has a rotation. Overall, I would give this place 3.5 out of 5! I hope they can accommodate the above the next time I visit. 

We booked a 7 night stay through jet2. Arrived late in the day we were booked in very quickly and allocated our room. Given the usual information leaflets and told where our room was. For a 4* I would have expected to be shown to our room. We had to ask about aircon and a kettle etc. These were sorted quickly. The hotel is lovely, clean and quite peaceful. Breakfast is plentiful, and you can eat out on the patio or inside. Pigeons were a bother to some ppl, and I raised this issue with a manager who agreed. We used the pool area and bar which was nice also had a couples massage which was book 2 get €20 off. Very nice. Indoor pool is nice along with gym/sauna /steam room also squash and tennis courts. If I was returning to Funchal I'd stay here. Only bad thing is the walk up and down the mountain haha to get to the hotel. Very steep. We opted for going up from the hotel to local areas and the levada just below which takes you along the hillside.

So I’ve come here with my partner we are in our late 20’s. Come to Madeira thinking it looked beautiful which it is. I’d say for this hotel it’s more for the older generation it’s very very very relaxed here. So if your wanting music and entertainment it lacks in that and you’ll find yourself wondering what to do. The hotel aswell is at the top of a hill so it’s very steep to walk down and walk back up so if you do that wear sensible shoes. If not get shuttle bus from hotel to the city centre which is handy. I’d say on a positive note the the hotel is lovely and clean and the pool area is beautiful the one thing I’d say is it says the pool is heated and it’s freezing cold and we’re only in September which is still considered warm. The breakfast is great and has a good variety for everyone’s tastes.

Fabulous stay, hotel was cleaned everyday and despite being slightly dated in places the rooms were ideal and we fell really lucky with a pool and sea view balcony! Staff were really helpful in booking excursions or advising on places to go, there was a free bus between the hotel and centre every day except Sundays which was ideal and if not a public bus stop outside the hotel which was cheap and super quick in to the centre as well. If not, it’s around a 25 minute walk into the centre which we did most days but I’d say probably not one for when you’re in evening wear as the hills are a little steep haha. Food at breakfast was fab, a good spread of options and always hot. The poolside was always very clean and we never struggled for a lounger. Definitely worth hiring a car to explore the island which we did with advice from the staff at reception, again very easy experience and well priced.

This was our third visit to the Madeira Panoramico Hotel, this time in one of their premium sea view rooms with a fantastic balcony and sea view of Funchal. We had a long wait at the airport passport control and we were running late on arrival at the hotel, so we we had to leave our bags and go for our pre booked dinner in the restaurant before it closed. So when we eventually got to our room, we were delighted to find a bottle of ‘bubbles’ and fruit tray from the hotel for our wedding anniversary, what a lovely gesture. On first impression, we thought the apartment was a bit compact, but the huge balcony and sea view more than made up for it, and there was also a large bathroom with twin sinks and a walk in shower, all which was cleaned and serviced on a daily basis. There is a lovely little fridge with a very reasonably priced mini bar, which is replenished on completion of the ‘tab’ for the drinks you have used! The hotel staff we met were wonderful, in particular Diogo (brilliant), Pedro, Regina and Irene in reception, for whom nothing was a problem, and all of it done with with a friendly smile. Christina, Carlos and Elizabeth (Betty) in the Bars and Restaurant were also amazing, and particular mention must go out to Elizabeth, who is one of the hardest working members of hotel staff we have ever met, to the point we thought she had a twin, as she seemed to be everywhere and had a smile for everyone. Our apologies to any staff we have not name tagged, as you were all great! We were on a B&B basis and found the buffet breakfast had a wide choice of hot and cold dishes to suit most tastes, and a big shout out to Sonia on the omelette stand whose lovely smile and omelette cooking skills brightened our mornings. We only ate in the evening at the buffet restaurant twice, the first time on our arrival evening, then again on our last evening, and found the variety of choices on both evenings more than suitable for us. I suppose the only disappointing issues for us were both our meals we had in the ‘Paladar a La Carte’ Restaurant on site, where we had attended on both of our previous visits and had really enjoyed the food and wine there. Unfortunately my wife had to return her meal on our anniversary evening dinner, it was then replaced by a meal that was marginally better, in the meantime I had almost finished my meal ( which was nice) but it put a damper on the whole experience for us. We thought we would try it again another evening, but unfortunately the food was once again disappointing, and then I was given someone else’s bill just to round off the evening. It is possible that my wife and I were just unlucky, but this was the only downside of our stay at the Madeira Panoramico Hotel. On a more positive note, the happy hour at the cocktail bar and the ‘Pop Up Bars’ are amazing, as is the free mini bus service into town (remember to book at reception) and it’s great driver Isaac. All in all another wonderful stay at the Madeira Pan

first of all, the hotel has a wonderful view of the city of Funchal and the Bay - the hotel staff is very nice and helpful. large rooms - the only minus - the rooms do not have an electric kettle. There is a PALADAR restaurant next to the hotel - where chef Ben serves dishes worthy of 5 stars, for me the best food during my stay in Madeira - prices in the restaurant are ordinary - like in any other restaurant. The dishes are presented so beautifully, you can eat with your eyes. If I ever come back to Madeira, I will definitely stay at this hotel and I will 200% only eat at the Paladar restaurant. I rate the hotel 9/10 and the restaurants 15/10☺️

Pretty hotel with a fabulous breakfast and a very delicious restaurant for dinner. Very friendly staff which speaks a lot of languages. Pretty rooms with a wonderful pool and a near supermarket and bus stop. And a shuttle that brings you to into the city center.

We have just thoroughly enjoyed our thirteenth stay in the Madeira Panoramico Hotel. Every member of staff is friendly, helpful and efficient, they all take pride in making your stay a pleasant one and are the main reason why we return over and over again! The hotel is situated a little way out of town and as long as you can manage the steep hills, it’s walkable to the town and also down to the lido area. We are of the ‘older generation’ and welcome the exercise. A courtesy bus to town is provided which runs for six days of the week and can be booked at reception. We always book a sea view room so that we can see the amazing view over the bay and wake to the sun rising over the Ilhas Desertas. This is a great hotel to visit for the New Year fireworks display. Breakfast is good and varied, offering both cooked and continental choices, it can be enjoyed on the veranda or in the main restaurant. We usually just book bed and breakfast choosing to eat some nights in the buffet or in the a la carte restaurant, the Paladar. We would recommend the O’Regional restaurant in the town and O’Dragoeiro on the way down to the Lido. Best place to people watch is the Golden Gate cafe/restaurant in the centre of town. The cable car trip up to Monte and the Monte Palace tropical gardens is worth doing. The tropical gardens are spectacular and the newly refurbished cafe at the bottom of the gardens is a lovely place to enjoy a coffee and the views. You can also get a bus (no.48) to Monte just uphill from the hotel, or no’s 20/21 from the town. The weather in Madeira is variable but this March we have been pleasantly surprised with the good weather. I usually check on the Madeira Webcams to see what other tourists are wearing to judge what clothes to pack. All we need to do now is to plan when we will be back!
