Quinta da Bela Vista

Nach mehreren Nächten stellt man natürlich das ein oder andere Manko fest. Für uns befindet sich jedoch alles insgesamt noch auf einem Niveau, wo es dem Stil angemessen scheint. Sehr stilvoll insgesamt und die Professionalität bzw der Umgang der meisten Angestellten mit den Gästen auf einer gelungenen Ebene. Man darf tatsächlich das P/L nicht außer Acht lassen. Nicht für jeden das richtige, doch selbst die Lage ist für uns ein super Kompromiss.

Ik heb het hotel nooit meer opgezocht nadat het was geboekt. Ik dacht eigenlijk dat het een goedkoop, klein hotel in het midden van Funchal zou zijn geweest en verwachtte net zoveel, dus ik had niet verwacht teleurgesteld te worden. Toen mijn vrouw en ik in onze auto stopten, nadat we helemaal uit Miami waren aangekomen, waren we aangenaam verrast door wat we zagen. We stopten bij wat zou worden beschouwd als een soort groot huis van het koloniale type. Ik was onder de indruk van de "Andere look" voor een hotel. Ik voelde me alsof ik het huis was van een superrijke oom, die een geweldig uitzicht had, hoog boven de stad. De sfeer was warm en gastvrij. Veel bomen met een overvloed aan zingende vogels. Dit was niet jouw moderne gebouw van 10 verdiepingen. Het uitzicht over de hele stad, vanaf ongeveer 150 meter hoogte, was geweldig. Het terrein was goed onderhouden. Het leek ook op een museum met een eetkamer in koloniale stijl. Personeel was vriendelijk. Kamer was redelijk comfortabel en alles werkte. Het enige was dat we daar veruit de jongste mensen waren (in de dertig) en ook de enige zwarte mensen daar. Veel oudere Britse mensen, voor wie het hotel geschikt lijkt te zijn, en die hun wens zouden verklaren om in een "terugblik" op het koloniale tijdperk te zijn. In het begin was het een beetje ongemakkelijk, maar op dag 2 denk ik dat ze zich realiseerden dat we niet "de hulp" waren en dat sommigen zich voor ons opwarmden. Dit is dus niet jouw "typische" hotel. Het is MEER charmant en gezellig. Zie het alsof je in een landhuis bent met antiek en een geweldig uitzicht op Funchal. Ik heb GEEN klachten over de plaats of het personeel. Ze waren geweldig en vriendelijk, net als Martha en Ricaldo.

Hoewel de openbare ruimtes met hun antiek charmant zijn en het personeel 5 * is, was onze kamer erg basic. Het sanitair was oud zonder aparte douche en geen douchegel geleverd (ondanks twee keer vragen bij de receptie) - alleen een stuk zeep, badschuim, shampoo en bodylotion. Dus ook geen conditioner. De pluggen in de gootsteen hielden geen water vast. We hadden mieren in de badkamer en een af en toe een rioolgeur. Het beddengoed (afgezien van de heerlijke spreien) en vooral de kussens waren van slechte kwaliteit. Het grootste probleem was de hoge geluidsoverdracht via de muren en het plafond en luidruchtige leidingen. Mijn man en ik hebben over de hele wereld in hotelkamers verbleven en hebben nog nooit zo'n lawaaierige kamer meegemaakt (in de mate dat we voorwerpen op tafel konden horen en echte woorden konden horen in plaats van gemompel). We waren niet in staat om te ontspannen en om onze privacy te behouden, merkten we dat we fluisterend en heimelijk rondliepen. Toen ik de geluidsproblemen bij de receptie noemde, kreeg ik een goed geoefend antwoord dat het hotel mijn opmerkingen op prijs stelde en ernaar zou handelen om het hotel te verbeteren. Omdat de problemen in de structuur van het gebouw lagen, weet ik niet hoe ze dit van plan zijn! Ik heb de receptie laten weten dat ik mijn ervaring op trip advisor zou plaatsen.

If starting from scratch you wouldn’t build a hotel like this one nowadays but that is part of its appeal . It’s different . Whether its intention and deliberate marketing strategy, Quinta da Bela Vista seems more suitable for older guests. It has the feel and quirky charm of an old stately home in places. Art works , carpets with character and pieces of crockery line the stairs and walkways. The library in the separate Manor House is a fabulous place to settle down and either read your own book or browse. Those with mobility issues might not welcome the uneven paths leading to the garden rooms though and there seemed little to hold the attention of children. The gym ( adjacent to the pool) is small and both the sauna and the jacuzzi become crowded if more than three wish to use them at any one time. The hotel location ( in the hills above Funchal) means that it is a longish 2-3 mile walk downtown in to the heart of the city ( it would be a monstrously difficult uphill walk back for anyone but the fittest of guests) but it provides a gorgeous view of the hills , the harbour and down in to town. Book the hotel courtesy bus ( but bear in mind it doesn’t always run at weekends or on holidays) , catch the number 8 or 13 bus into town ( it’s a 5 minute walk to the bus stop) or ask the helpful reception staff to call a cab for you. We can’t comment on the food for evening meals as we only booked breakfast . Everything that you’d expect for first meal of the day was available though. Snacks from the pool bar were perhaps a little on the expensive side but the club sandwich we were served was both sizeable AND extremely tasty though. More a main meal than a snack . What particularly made our stay enjoyable was the exceptional quality of the staff. All of those that we encountered ( whether maids, waiters, waitresses, bar tenders, pool attendants or those at reception ) seemed pleased that we had chosen their hotel to stay at . Each and every one did their bit to make us feel welcome. They really DO work hard to ensure that guests enjoy their stay. It would be hard to recommend Quinta da Bela Vista for its rocking night life , cutting edge facilities or fabulous provision for children but if you are a slightly older, but still mobile, traveller looking for a place to chill out, unwind and relax this is probably EXACTLY what you are looking for . A truly wonderful hotel, wonderful setting, wonderful staff, wonderful food- what more can I say? This was our 5th time at this hotel and we hope to return again next year. We have visited in both April and October and both months have been very comfortable weather- wise . The hotel has a shuttle bus that runs Mon- Fri but local buses are very easy and fun to use! Taxis are also fairly cheap to use too. There are so many interfaces to visit in or near Funchal.

We had a great week here. Although built (I think) only 25 years ago, the hotel has a lovely old world charm about it, maybe slightly dated but it was all the better for it in comparison to the thousands of other more modern style hotels and apar**ents elsewhere on the island. The rooms were nicely furnished and spacious and the pool, gardens, tennis court and restaurant were all excellent (we didn't get round to using the gym!) Without exception the staff were great, at all times smiling, helpful and attentive with lots of advice and inside knowledge about restaurants and things to do. Special thanks especially to Ricardo, Magda, Marta and Francisco who, along with all the others whose names I cannot now recall, made our stay so enjoyable. If we come back to Madeira this is where we will stay.

This hotel is ideal for garden lovers looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday in a sub tropical climate. It's location outside Funchal requires transport to most the attractions so you need to book the hotel's shuttle bus or take a taxi or public bus to most the island's attractions. We managed to do this for the whole week. The standard rooms in this hotel are like superior rooms in England in terms of size and facilities. The swimming pool area is very pleasant. The jacuzzi needs to be booked 30mins in advance. We used this facility most days. The staff at this hotel professional but warm and welcoming too. The food was excellent and the chefs cater very well to diet requirements and allergies. The menu us varied and high quality produce is used. One recommendation I would suggest is that food on the breakfast buffet is labelled. Each day the chef would bake a delicious fresh cake but I had to ask a waiter what it was each morning and some days he also struggled to identify it. None of the cheeses are labelled and that could be a problem for guests with food allergies. Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday and would return here. We'd like to thank the following staff for making our stay here so enjoyable. Francisco in the pool area for putting on the jacuzzi and sorting out the towels each day with a welcoming smile. Paula in reception for being so helpful in giving out maps and directions. Even telling us which bus to catch from town. Carina for being so patient and friendly in the dining room. Fernando for doing a great job in the dining room and to the management of the hotel for effectively sorting out a few minor issues we encountered. We returned home with many magical memories of Madeira and hope to return here soon.

The warm hospitality was outstanding the service was brilliant the food was beautiful and well presented the .The low key vibe and a**osphere suited us both .The gardens were stunning ! Clearly the staff were attentive and extremely courteous and strive impeccably to provide an excellent welcome .Thank you for one of the best holiday We have had we also met some lovely guests .
