Aparthotel Esquinzo Y Monte Del Mar

Nou, we kregen een kleine verrassing toen we bij het hotel aankwamen, het werd gerenoveerd, het zwembad is niet beschikbaar en tijdens de reservering werd dit op geen enkel moment vermeld, we gingen rusten en er was veel lawaai... er was geen warm water... alle handdoeken waren kapot en bovendien was de receptie bij aankomst gesloten en lieten ze de sleutel achter in een envelop die aan het glas was geplakt...

I've just returned from an inclement week in Esquinzo. It is about 90 mins in a transfer from the airport. On the southern tip. Let me commence with a comment from a staff member 'it's not just quiet here. It's dead'. On arrival at the hotel the super tardy receptionist proclaimed two things 'no English' and 'passport now'. I was then provided a single piece of A4 paper which she drew a arrow on to point me to my room. Rooms are basic. Very basic. There was a very pleasing alarm clock type drilling from building work that awoke me daily from 8am. This is if the fact that staircases and upstairs apar**ents running over your bedroom doesn't get you. There is a wide array of cats running free and on the one morning there was no drilling, cleaning staff awoke me at 8 to reinforce I was leaving that day (8 hours later, they provide you no departure info). There is no WiFi (reception aside). There is no information. At all. (some basic room info in your kitchen in German aside). There are no offered or advertised excursions. At all. In 'esquinzo' there is a stunning beach. There is a small friendly bar (that only sells reheated frozen pizza) a tiny mini mart and that folks is it. No shop(S) . There is a restaurant attached to another hotel who turn you away and close for long periods. The monte del Mar restaurant food is awful with service similar to the reception. Other people talk about 'walking' to the next town 'Jandia'. It is not a town. It is a collection of 4 and 5 star all inclusive hotels which if you don't have one of their bands on your wrist they don't let you in. There is a supermarket. See previous of no cafes, bars etc. It is also a miserable 25 min hike there over mostly wasteland. However, here you can get a taxi (the hotel when I asked to order one, said they had, but didn't). Near 'Jandia' there is a great beach and bar. You need to be fit and able as it's a fair slog down a mountain, but worthwhile. (best just hit Esquinzo beach and follow the beach right). The nearest town with a couple of actual cafes, bars or eateries is Morro Jable. It's €12 in a taxi. Food is available but very average. Unless you want absolute total seclusion with limited access to food, daily noise, grumpy staff and limited views from your room, then please, swerve this place.

We have stayed at the Esquinzo Monte del Mar 5 times before. Before and on arrival, nothing was mentioned about what was to come. After 2 days they sent us to eat all meals at their other hotel 3 kms away, The Royal Palm. This place was not what we wanted at all. Then they announced that there was to be drilling works in the main pool areas. There were mechanical diggers, loud drills and a gang of workmen. The worst thing was how this hotel group treated us. They refused to pay for the full loss or inconvenience we suffered. They offered no alternatives or apologies or any form of thinking of us being put in this position. We had to sort this out ourselves; We moved to another hotel at our own cost. They eventually refunded 7 nights, but not the full 10 nights. The rest of my family in 2 other apar**ents did not get any refund or help. They took thousands of pounds from us, ignored our loyalty over the years, and instead presented us with stress. When we decided to make an official complaint and asked for the “Hojas de Reclamaciones” form, they did not produce one. The procedure then would be to contact the local police. I tried to complain after getting home. However, this is not possible, hence my writing on social media. I am still incensed about what they did to us, weeks later. I will go back to the Esquinzo, but not this hotel. There are lots of very nice people in the area. The wonderful Safari bar at Monte del Mar is worth a special trip for all and expats, and is separate from the hotel (as are the useful shops). Owen from Ireland will welcome you.

Myself and wife stayed at Apart hotel for 6 nights. It was very clean and comfy. The pool had only days before been completed after a refit and they did a superb job. All new liner, outside of pool immaculate and all new sun loungers. The restaurant we only used for breakfast but for €10 per person you had as much as you liked. It was very good value. We didn't have a kettle in our room on Arrival, but asked for 1 and got 1. All staff on site were very helpful and polite. Our room was very nice indeed. Only tiny issue it had no aircon so night's were warm.

Hotel was simple and clean, the reasturant was to die for with a wide range of food every night that changed throughout the week, fitting everyone’s liking, the mini market and bar in the hotel were amazing, strong drinks and delicious pizzas for a great price, highly recommend the cheese and ham panini! However the receptionists aren’t of much help, our transfer was faxed over to the hotel yet she couldn’t acquire it for us, most staff and guests speak only German and the language barrier is difficult to overcome. If you have booked half board, be aware the reasturant charges for drinks every night which you must then pay for on the final night of your stay. The reasturants food is simply delicious and the Mojo sauce is by far the best dressing I’ve ever tasted. Overall our stay here has been relaxing and enjoyable, the hotel pools are cleaned daily, despite being freezing cold and the rooms are also cleaned daily. The beaches are stunning and the local beach bars and friendly and cheap. Would recommend for a budget holiday. Also, the local stray cats are very friendly and adorable.

IMHO and from our experience, this hotel group will not worry if you have a destroyed holiday or assist you if things go wrong. They are IMHO inhuman and arrogant. Do you really want to risk that? I am still incensed about what they did to us, weeks later.

Both swimming pools have been closed since the middle of our stay, large construction works (demolition of walls, paving and floors) are taking place in the hotel every day from 08.30 using very noisy construction tools. Not only can we use the pools, but we can't even stay on the balcony of the apar**ent, if we close it, it's hot in the room (the air conditioning works in summer). Among other things the restaurant was also closed. Management of the hotel arogant Don't book this hotel.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS TERRIBLE ANT INFESTED FACILITY. THE STAFF UNFRIENDLY, UNHELPFUL & AGGRESSIVE!! The reservation images do not match the room you’ll be provided with! When we arrived, we were incomplete shock! Firstly, our accommodation key was stuck on the front door, which is accessible to anyone! We were not greeted by anyone at reception and had to make our way to our room. This is where the first disaster happened, the key that was provided couldn’t open our front door, we were stranded for at least 30 minutes until my partner had to push the door for us to get in as it was approaching night time. The second disaster happened when we got into the room, the room we booked was completely different to what we entered into, the bedding, the furniture and the bathroom did not match the description at all! The third disaster happened when the receptionist shouted her lungs out at me! I was trying to explain that even though we might have booked a studio, the room that we seen on the booking wasn’t described as what we entered into. She just proceeded to repeat the same sentence which was very unhelpful and became more aggressive to the point that my partner had to calm her down! We upgraded to another room and this is where the most unbelievable circumstances any customer could imagine happened. The room was definitely better than the previous. However when we woke up in the morning our suitcases, our beds, the tables, the bathroom were all covered in ants, ants were even crawling over our bodies. I have never ever felt so disgusted in my life. For the safety of your family. Your friends and your partner do not attend or even look at this holiday facility. This will put you off travelling completely me and my partner have travelled 10 countries in the last two years, and this is by far the worst most disgusting place I’ve ever seen. Do you not put yourself through this ever!! Even when i demanded to speak to a manager the receptionist refused me the right! She didnt want her manager to be informed of her poor behaviour!! She also AGAIN gave us the wrong room key!! I will be escalating this, and ill be demanding all my money back!!!!

Had a very peaceful stay at this hotel, it is in a very quiet area but that suited us. Beautiful beach a five minute walk away via a very steep slope, not good for elderly or disabled. The hotel also has many steps which we found difficult with heavy bags. The room was clean and comfortable and regular cleaning, towel change etc. Beach towels available from reception for a small fee €2. We had half board which was ok, breakfast plenty of choice, dinner a little limited and not always to our taste. Value for money hotel if you want a quiet beach stay
