Syrou Melathron

While there is a lot to like about this hotel, our “Premium Sea View” room looked nothing like the website photo. We did have a balcony with a great view of the sea, but the room only had a bed, an old wooden chair, desk and wardrobe. It was spotlessly clean, but very basic. That’s my reason for 3 stars. What I liked: beautiful building, super friendly and helpful staff, great location in Vaporia - 5 minute walk to the main square and across the street from a great place to swim in the sea. Also, breakfast buffet was very good.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was perfect. Great location, exeptional view, friendly staff, clean rooms. It had all you can ask. I would recommand it anytime.

Unique grand hotel archiecture unlike anything we encountered in other accommation on offer on our Greek islands trip. It was a treat staying here, good value too, with a wonderful, imaginative breakfast buffet atop the hotel where the views of sea and other classical buildings in this locale were wonderful. Money has been spent on a good sleep for guest with blackout- type curtains, triple (?)glazing and luxe beds- SO comfy. Staff were helpful and resourceful esp re our local travel enquiries.

Amazing views the ocean is just in front and the place is beautiful.

This is a fantastic place at the heart of a lovely island. The hotel is historic, charming and intimate. The staff are all incredibly helpful and very friendly. The hotel has great views and a nice rooftop seating area for breakfast, (which is good). There is no bar on the roof but you can get drinks at a store that is part of the hotel and take them with you to the rooftop. If you have been traveling for a while there is also a public laundromat only a short taxi ride away that is easy to use with English instructions. The beach next to the hotel is just a concrete slab, but you can take a taxi to the beaches on the other side of the island for about 15 euros. The staff recommended Agkathopes beach where you can rent an umbrella and lounge chairs from Calma Boutique Hotel, plus they serve drinks and food on the beach and will call a taxi to get you back to Syrou. Syros is very nice and the streets are marble or cobblestone with lots of places to eat and cheaper than the more touristy islands. Ermoupoli is very attractive. This island will become upscale very soon based upon the construction and renovations they are doing now.

And what view … stunningly beautiful. The hotel is a magnificent neo classical mansion in a seriously commanding position overlooking the sea in the old town. Did I mention the view? Arguably the best position in the whole city. We loved it. We booked a sea facing room which had a delightful little balcony to while away the hours watching the sea and sunset. Just a short walk below the hotel you can access the swimming area and swim below the cliff with amazing views all around you. The hotel has what I would call character. The decor is traditional and not boutique, perhaps here and there it feels dated and could do with some freshening up … but it is quite grande. Maybe faded grandeur is a better description. Our sea front room had imposing high ceilings, a wonderful marble bathroom and lovely period touches like the marquetry floor and painted ceiling. And did I mention the view? It was breath taking. Breakfast is served on a roof terrace, again with the wonderful view. Overall breakfast is decent, not great but decent enough. I found our bed very comfortable and the bathroom lotions and potions beautiful. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return, if for nothing else but that view that I will never forget.

Beautiful hotel in every sense and in the best location one can imagine in Ermoupolis. Thank you for making my holiday memorable. The only issue I had was that there were no partitions between the small balcony spaces and that was a shame in terms of enjoyment. I hope the hotel addresses this in future.
