Ryokan Ichikawa

A very comfortable stay in an old inn, with beautiful room and delicious food. The owners are very friendly. The location is ideal for walking the Nakasendo, situated in the old post town of Oi-juku.

Simply an amazing stay. First trip to Japan and first ever stay at a Ryokan & was not disappointed. The mother & daughter (5th & 6th generation)hosts were super accommodating and felt very privileged that they had opened their Inn for solo travelers like myself to enjoy. The feeling of history at the Inn, felt almost like staying within a piece of living art. Ikebana display in the front display and Bonsai in the courtyard that are over 500 hundred years old, it made the whole experience an immersive one. The dinner and breakfasts were an experience that were perfectly executed. Of course local / home grown ingredients were the stars of these meals and every dish was tastier than the last. Thank you for making my stay feel comfortable and relaxed. Ena is one of the historical postal towns on the Nakasendo trail & recommend visiting and staying here if you are taking the less touristy route. とても思い出に残る滞在にしてくださった旅館のとても親切なスタッフに感謝します。

Sublime Ryokan dans une ville charmante. Les chambres sont spatieuses, confortables, on y dort très bien.

Walk from station over a very pleasant bridge and small river. Old, traditional garden presented an atmosphere of calm and tradition. The rooms and bedding were most comfortable. The couples bathing was welcome and a good addition to our experience. The dinner and breakfast were above expectations as was the visit mid meal of the descendent of original owner 400 years ago. Well worth the money.

Fantastic Traditional Inn. Best vegetarian food I’ve had in Japan. Friendly amazing staff, enjoyed hot bath after long walk. Rooms traditional, beautifully presented, well worth the experience.

Wonderful experience of a traditional family owned ryokan. Excellent accommodation, wonderful meals and hospitality. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to other travellers. It is an excellent way to start a walk on the Nakasendo way.

We stayed at this ryokan on the first night of a 7 day self guided walking tour of the Nakasendo Trail. This was one of our favorite accommodations in Japan. The owner (15th generation) and her daughter were so gracious in welcoming us. The room was beautiful and looked out on a garden. The dinner was amazing. And it is a short walk to the Hiroshige museum which is great! Wonderful start to our hike!

Amazing experience. Beautiful inn, spectacular food and the most wonderful family owners. The care the current generation innkeeper took was beyond terrific. Thoughtful and accommodating of many dietary restrictions and willing to go above and beyond to assist. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
