Bowood Hotel, Spa, and Golf Resort

My friend and I had a beautiful afternoon at Bowood Spa, made even better by one of the lovely ladies at the spa reception. There was a slight mix up when we arrived as there were two bookings with very similar names, but after chatting with the team it was easy to understand what had happened. The problem was sorted without fuss, and we enjoyed a lovely few hours in the spa, treatment rooms and in the suntrap courtyard. Just what the doctor ordered! Afternoon tea was served overlooking the golf course in the glorious sunshine, served with a glass of bubbles! Only downside is that it's only a half day experience and quite pricey for the size of the facilities.

Stunning hotel and grounds. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed my spa treatment and the food was excellent. I would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. Took a visit to Bowood House and Gardens whilst there, very beautiful.

I bought a mothers day voucher to use the spa and for an hour treatment for my mum, to say the spa is unappealing is an understatement. The reception area is so dull, there is no sense of luxury when you walk in which set the tone for the couple of hours we were there. It seems the lay out is poor because there were people walking through to get behind the reception area and back throughout our 5 minutes of filling in the forms. We had to ask for a coffee/water as it wasn't offered to us. We showed ourselves to the client room, we had to ask for towels/robes, and ask for directions to the spa. The pool has an outstanding view of the golf course but the sauna/shower area was dirty and I'm sure if I could see in the steam room that would probably be just as bad, thankfully it was too steamy to see anything. The changing rooms are so compact, I felt like we were all on top of eachother, with only 2 mirrors to get ready and 2 hair dryers, there was a long wait for us all to get ready. And the showers were of course dirty, rusty, unappealing and need completely redoing! As a saving grace, the treatments we both received (facial & pedicure) were good and the staff were really lovely. We tried to get into the restaurant but didnt fancy the menu, then noticed there were people having afternoon tea so asked if we could do the same which we were told no as it was pre-book only but we could have cream tea instead. Seems strange for finger sandwiches and cake to not be on offer so we decided to leave. Not worth the money spent, and would not return.

We booked for a night’s stay without ever having heard of this place before. Our golf club has reciprocal arrangements through the Lansdowne Club and we thought we’d give it a go. We’ve been to more upmarket resorts, both in terms of the standard of both the hotel and the golf course, but notwithstanding that, and may be because of it, our Bowood experience was faultless and entirely enjoyable. Thinking back, what made the experience such a relaxed one was the very positive attitude of every single staff we interacted with. Nothing was too much of a trouble. The pro shop staff, the valet, the young man serving at the club house bar, the restaurant and the front desk staff - all had very friendly no-fuss positive service mind. Other than that, the hotel room was excellent- and we appreciated the nicety of the home made cookies and milk in the fridge. The hotel food was great - we had three meals. And the golf course was 6.5/10 which is to say it’s good if you’d consider a Kingsbarn 10/10 by comparison.

We booked this afternoon tea online, enticed by the promising reviews. The reservation process was indeed seamless, and we looked forward to a delightful experience. However, our visit left much to be desired. Upon arrival, we were taken to a table by the fireplace, which initially seemed like a quaint setting. We perused the afternoon tea selection and were informed about the drink options available to us. Our server assured us that our beverages would be refilled throughout our stay. Sadly, this was the last attentive service we received. Throughout our time there, our waiter failed to return to our table, leaving us feeling neglected. On two occasions, we had to visit the bar ourselves to place our drink orders, disrupting the relaxed atmosphere we had hoped for. The pinnacle of disappointment came when we sat for an hour amidst dirty plates and an empty stand before they were finally cleared away. While the area where we were seated boasted charming décor, the cleanliness was sorely lacking. Dust coated key touch points and there was thick layers of dust under shelves of coffee tables and lampshades. The subpar service and lack of cleanliness marred what could have been a wonderful experience. In conclusion, while the food and ambiance hold promise, the service and cleanliness of the establishment, especially considering the cost, were far from satisfactory. Management would do well to address these issues promptly to ensure that future guests enjoy the full experience they deserve.

Could not fault this place. Absolutely stunning. Fantastic service and the food is delightful. One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. Lovely staff and a comfortable stay. Everyone very hardworking and efficient. Great work team. X

I have been here twice now just to visit the spa and have some treatments. The staff are lovely and so friendly. The spa facilities are lovely but the loungers in the pool area surprised me a bit. They were a bit rusty and some wire poking out around the edges which could have been a bit dangerous if you got caught on it especially poolside. The surroundings are just gorgeous especially from the pool looking out onto the fields and the nature you see is just amazing. The afternoon tea is lovely and you have a choice of eating outside or inside. Again, the staff are lovely. I was quite surprised at the cost of small snacks on reception - very expensive! The relaxation room is gorgeous but the only thing that spoilt it for me were two things. 1. The main door onto reception being left open constantly which meant a lot of noise. 2. The group of ladies who decided to enter and have an incredibly loud conversation despite signs saying 'silence'. I feel like perhaps staff could have reminded them as my relaxation experience using this room when they entered was pretty much non-existent!

My partner surprised me with a stay here for my birthday! We had a room on the ground floor near the spa which was very clean and spacious, nicely furnished and with a big bathroom (separate shower and bath). As well as yummy cookies, the team had left some chocolates in the room with a birthday message which really added that special touch! The spa was never too busy (though we were there on a weekday) and we enjoyed our walk around the grounds — ask for a map to see the different walking routes. We saw lambs, deer and even a few hares! Staff were very friendly and the food was consistently good. They cooked breakfast to order and dinner was excellent, if a little pricey. Our only minor issue was that drinks in the restaurant took a while to arrive — we had to chase these up and they only arrived halfway through our mains.

I don’t know why I havent reviewed Bowood before as I eat there fairly often and always recommend it to friends visiting Wiltshire. As we live nearby we haven’t experienced the rooms (our friends say they are fab) but the restaurant is simply perfect for lunch. The team is exceptional, extremely kind, thoughtful and professional. I love the lunch menu, Bouddah bowl if we feel virtuous (colourful, healthy and feeling) , or wagyu burger for a special treat. Well run, lovely menu, can’t fault it. Thank you.
