Holiday Inn Express CHARLESTON-CIVIC CENTER by IHG

it is very comfortable

Clean, comfortable. Breakfast was good, above average, and the coffee was the best I have had in any hotel.

First impressions are lasting, and last impressions are the first thing people remember. When I first arrived, I needed to use a restroom. The staff directed me to the men's bathroom. I used it, and there was no soap, hand sanitizer, or hand towels. There was an automatic hand dryer. Because I was going to be in my room soon, I rinsed my hands and used the hand dryer. This lack of detail concerned me, but I noted it. I saw a sign stating there was an additional $10.00 parking fee per night. I was surprised because none of the hotels I had used before charged a parking fee. I went to their site; you have to dig down, and you will see there is a $10.00 parking fee. I can deal with that. Ui asked whether they had a pool, and they said they did not, but they did have a fitness center. Again, you have to go to their site and see that there is no pool. Okay, I assumed too much with this place. I knew they had a breakfast buffet. I enjoy this at their other hotels. I set my alarm for the next morning so I would have breakfast. Unfortunately, I heard a knock on the door in the morning. I went to the door to find it was hosekerping. He apologized. Why don't they have a better system than this? For example, the front desk tells housekeeping when people check out. Then they don't have to wake up people accidentally. Breakfast was missing knives. I had to ask twice to get them. The original bathroom did not change. It should have been restocked by now. Details.

The staff was very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was good and amenities were nice, so is the location. The bed was very comfortable. My only problem with the property is that it wasn’t very clean - our bedroom’s AC was full of mold, the bedroom smelled damp, and the shower also had some moldy spots.

Passing through stay, floor was damp from carpet shampooing earlier in the day.. so clean, okay. One bed had a stain on the sheet- front desk immediately came up and changed it no hesitation. Elevators were HOT, hallways were HOT.. however the previous hotel was the same way not the same chain. Staff was friendly. Floors and walls were not exceptionally clean but was okay. Breakfast was very good. Centrally located and easy to walk around town & perfect location for highway stop.
