Villa Vodno

My wife and I like to consider ourselves fairly well traveled at this point (over a dozen countries and counting) and I would say this is by far one of the best hotels/villas we've stayed in during our travels. Not too far from the city center, Villa Vodno has all the qualities of the perfect hotel, for an amazing price. Great location, amazingly clean and large rooms, comfortable bed, a pool, and of course great hosts. If in Skopje, it would be a mistake to book anywhere else other than Villa Vodno.

This was my first visit to Skopje and I could not have felt more welcome or more cared for. This was especially important for me as a single female traveler. Exceptionally clean, very comfortable (I slept so well) with a lovely friendly atmosphere. The owners are the best hosts ever and really go the extra mile to make sure you have the best stay. This included them cooking a traditional, home-cooked dinner on my last evening, as well as organizing transfers to and from the airport for me.

The owners welcome you as friends. They made sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay, and were very helpful with recommendations and organizing taxis. The room was spacious, clean and had a very comfortable bed. The omelets for breakfast were marvellous. What made our stay special was the owners’ friendliness. They made a real effort making us feel welcome, and we had lovely conversations on the terrace. Would love to come back, and would highly recommend!

Arrived early hours and was still greeted by the owner. A lovely quiet area and the Omelettes are amazing! Just came and went as we pleased! The bed was amazing! And Massive! Was looking forward to the swimming pool but it was too early in the season which was a shame as we would’ve probably stayed there all day 😥

From start to finish, this was one of our best ever hotel experiences. We were warmly welcomed by the owners who went out of their way to be hospitable, courteous and friendly. The accommodation was perfect with a large, well-appointed room where, due to poor weather, we had to spend quite a lot of time rather than in the garden. Breakfast was well prepared while we also enjoyed 2 superb evening meals, cooked to order to suit our tastes. I was even presented with a bottle of fine wine as they had noticed from my passport that it was a birthday. We also enjoyed lively conversations with the host, particularly given (but perhaps because of) some diametrically opposed political views!

I stayed at the hotel for two nights with my colleague in mid-June 2022. The hotel had us picked up from the airport and when we arrived at the hotel we were exhausted from the flight. The hotel is located a good 30-minute walk from the city center. We were both starving. Since the hotel offers meals, we asked if they could prepare lunch for us, which they happily did. But, we made the mistake of not asking how much it would be. The lunch was fine, consisting of salad, soup and chicken. We only drank water, so no wine or other drinks. Only when we were checking out of the hotel did we see how much the lunch cost. In dollars is was $24 per person which is a reasonable price for lunch in New York City, but not Macedonia. That same night we had dinner in the central square with wine, appetizer, dessert and water. We only spent $16 per person and we had a prime spot. We should have asked how much the lunch was, but we were so beat and all of the reviews about this place were great, so we thought it would be much more reasonable. For us, we will be okay -we were in town for a conference. But, for unsuspecting travelers from poorer countries, this could have been really financially taxing. Everyone in Macedonia was so kind to us, so this was a bummer.

This is a gem. A beautiful family-run guest house at the end of a cup-de-sac road (so very quiet), nestled just before the slopes of Skopje mountain, yet only a 15 minute walk into the city. The owners were exceptionally kind. My room was actually a suite of 2 rooms, both spacious and airy. The bathroom had an excellent walk-in shower and hot water was instant in volume from a cylinder specific to the room. The small outdoor pool was very welcome for a cooling dip after returning from a long walk in the hot sun, and then I would sit relaxing in their open-air but covered terrace enjoying the peace and quiet. I cannot imagine there is a nicer place to stay in the city.
