We visited the hotel as a treat from me to my husband for his 40th Birthday. Check in - very quick and efficient, payment made on arrival, upgraded to Oriel Suite. Room - Fab, spotlessly clean, obviously recently updated with beautiful lighting and lovely seating area by tv. Plenty of room too. Nespresso Machine with pods, tea/coffee making station in wardrobe. Robes/slippers, etc. Bathroom nicest we've had in a hotel, really powerful shower, huge bath. Balcony to step out on for air but this room was just overlooking the carpark but also the mountains behind the hotel. Breakfast - loved that the hot food was served by staff at the counter, it was fresh and hot both mornings. Good selection also. Continental was self service and enough of selection of bread / fruit / yoghurts / cereals / pastries etc as well as juices. Coffee was a bit disappointing, but didnt bother us too much. Dinner - we had issues with a few things on our first night. Deep fried brie starter was poor, a bit too like freezer portions that could be purchased in a supermarket. We then had approximately 30 minute wait between starter and mains, we're not normally in a hurry to have the next course but this pushed it a little bit. Garlic bread that was served with my pasta dish was hard and felt like it was sitting under the warmer in kitchen for quite a while. My husbands chicken stir fry was like a pool of sauce with chewy chicken, wasnt very appetising, a little less sauce and less watery and may have been a bit better. We communicated the issues to the waiter and a manager when he asked if all was ok - fresh garlic bread was brought out and the manager arranged to have the bottle of wine we had with dinner removed from the bill and another free drink each too at the bar. This made up for it. Ciaran, one of the barmen, looked after us very well after dinner and really went out of his way the next night to ensure that we had a lovely meal/evening. We chatted to him regularly during our stay - lovely chap, hotel should be very grateful to have him on their team! Dinner the second night was faultless - chicken wings were the nicest (and hottest!!) I've ever tasted. Steak was perfect too and the sweet potato fries were a great choice. Hotel in general - clean, modern, comfortable, great location, only a few minutes walk into the town. Staff - as mentioned above, Ciaran, the barman deserves a special mention, he was chatty, helpful and very courteous. Looked after us very well both nights and took time to stop and chat to us about our visit etc. All staff members we met, including Managers, were very friendly and welcoming. Probably some of the nicest staff throughout any of the hotels we've stayed in. Shows the positive working relationship between all, they create a lovely atmosphere. Leisure Centre - good sized pool for those looking to have a proper swim. Was quiet when we went in the afternoon on the Sunday, only a few others there. A
