Ashley Hotel

This hotel is quite difficult to rate because it has both good and bad points. On the positive side, the location is convenient if you're visiting Cambridge for a day or just need a place to stay overnight. The hotel is a converted old house, so the rooms are surprisingly spacious. The breakfast was also good, and the restaurant staff were very friendly. However, the hotel is very dated. I don't mind the old-fashioned décor, but the facilities are also outdated. The bathroom was very hard to rate.... there wasn't even a proper shower, just a bathtub with separate hot and cold taps. If you only wanted a quick shower, you had to fill a cup with hot water, then cold water, mix them together, and pour it over yourself. It felt like stepping back in time. One thing future guests should definitely know is not to arrive after 10 pm. Reception closes at 10, and they don't leave your key in a key box. Instead, you have to walk about 10 minutes to another hotel to check in and collect your key. So if you've been travelling all day and finally arrive at 10 pm without a car, you'll have to spend 20 mins to walk there and back before you can even get into your room, which isn't the best start to the evening. Afterwards, I noticed that this is officially a two-star hotel... and suddenly everything made a lot more sense. If you keep your expectations in line with the rating, it's an acceptable place for a short stay, especially if space and breakfast are more important to you than modern facilities.

There is no elevator, so will need to carry luggages up the staircase. Although it is stated as a hotel, but there are no amenities except a car park. The kettle was extremely dirty, the host did not allow us to change the kettle.

It was a great room for family. Location was also good. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was perfectly. We will stay here if we Come to Cambridge again

Nice and cosy. Good value, good breakfast options. Location is great!

Despite the slightly tired looking exterior, this is an excellent choice if you want a hotel in Cambridge, with parking, and walking distance to the city centre. Our room was on the ground floor but facing the rear and was very peaceful. The room is quite small but everything worked, it was exceptionally clean and comfortable, and the shower water pressure was fantastic. Breakfast, included in our package, was very very good. Plenty of choice and the cooked food was served on piping hot plates. Best of all, Jackie and Jan, the two wonderful ladies who served us. Actually they did more than serve, they made our breakfast memorable and warm. I hope these two ladies are well regarded by the hotel management, as we really want to return based upon their personal and very welcoming characters. Lovely, lovely ladies. In case you didn’t realise, we thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Very nice

The reception insisted I have not paid the room and she charged my debit card. Later on she realized she made a mistake when I showed her the payment record (to Trip.com) and then she refunded to me. Very poor check in experience
