Liston Hotel

We were attracted to this hotel because they had balconies and its lovely to sit on a balcony relaxing in the evening with a drink. Weather providing ! It's in a good position quite near to the beach the walk will certainly keep you fit ! We booked a 6 night stay from 2nd August in a superior room with balcony on the top floor. Room only, breakfast is extra. Not cheap. There are 5 balconies in close proximity to each other. The website says that the hotel is a non smoking hotel. Although there are ash trays on the balcony. No problem for the first 2 nights, We enjoyed our balcony and managed to use it. No real complaints about the hotel, 3 star, in need of renovation and decorating but understandable in this economic climate. Clean though. Bed large and comfortable. At 9am on the 3rd morning we are awakened by the stink of cigarette smoke coming through our open window. Our neighbour is smoking. Our pleasant evenings are now not at all pleasant and we have to shut windows and balcony door. Mornings aren't great either. We complained to the owner / manager who was very sorry but there was nothing that she could do, she would have a word with the culprits and ask them not to smoke. REALLY !! We complained again the next day and asked for a reduction as our enjoyment was being spoiled. We had 2 nights remaining. She offered to move us, we refused as it was too much upheaval. Could she not remove our neighbour ? Not possible was the reply. After doing a mathematical equation she agreed to refund us £10 for each of the 4 nights that we were affected !! That was it take it or leave it. She kept saying that she was very sorry. We said that if a hotel is advertised as a no smoking premises then surely it is up to the hotelier to make the house rules and make all areas no smoking. There are No Smoking logos on the front door of each room. Waste of time. Her attitude was that we were making a fuss, although she did admit that she didn't like smoking either. SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !!! After the run in we were totally ignored. We couldn't get away quick enough. How not to look after paying guests !! Steve H

Very good stay in Boscombe, Dorset ( near Bournemouth). . Easy access to the beach, this hotel was a pleasure to stay in. An English style hotel, we occupied the family room. Very comfortable with most facilities that are needed. Also friendly owner and staff. The area was very refreshing with beautiful flower garden. A short distance walk took us to the Boscombe pier, which was 20min further walk to Bournemouth pier.

Stayed here for two nights at the beginning of the month, following a very late booking. All hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Good car parking on site and good location - Slightly out of the town so nice and quiet for a good nights sleep, but still within walking distance. Room was large, with comfy bed and a good shower. Exactly what I needed.
