What we thought to be the highlight of our holidays (since we visited this property 8 years ago and had a great experience then) turned out to be a disaster. Booked a premium villa for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary in Taj Bekal. Here is the experience: - Picked us up promptly from Vivanta Mangalore however despite knowing about our arrival time and knowing we were celebrating a special occasion, no one welcomed us upon arrival. After waiting at the reception, I had to ask for check in before they realised we were waiting and then checked us in. - Then after arriving in our villa, we waited for our luggage which only came after 2 calls to the reception. - Talking of premium villa, nothing has changed in the last 8 years except their rates. Despite paying for the best villa which is available, the only highlight of it is the large pool. Other than that, the room is small, cooling is less and it feels so old. It was old 8 years ago so I thought they would have upgraded it a lot but they have only increased the rates. Not worth the money at all. - Then at high tea, no service at all! - I complained all this to the highest authority person available and was promised a great stay for the rest of the time however not a single thing changed. - We had breakfast included in our rate however the first morning breakfast was again a disaster, no service and no one available to take orders from our tables. Even I called someone and that person simply ignored us. No napkins as well. No one to guide us to empty tables, you have to find and sit on your own. Absolutely chaos. We have had enough so we had just a dosa and left. - We did not do breakfast for the next 2 mornings but like I said no one cares at all. No call to check on us. You may die in your villa but they don't care. - Called for pool towels however it did not come ever. - We had a photoshoot booked which they offer as part of the activity. They don't have any slots for it (so I was told) however I had to call and remind them that I had one booked in advance to which they connected me to the photographer on site who said since it's raining let's do it tomorrow morning. Again, no one came or called us the next morning so we called again and were advised that the photographer would be there in 30 minutes. Waited 45 minutes after getting ready and after calling again was told to wait for 15 minutes again. However when no one came after wasting 90 minutes of our morning time, I finally went to the reception to wait for another 20 minutes to get the photographer to my room. The whole experience was ruined because it was so hot by then and we had to abandon the shoot. - Being hungry after all this ordeal, we called to have food but were told that no, you cannot get food except from the 24 hour menu. Thanks to Sous Chef Mr Sobin though, he took care of us like family and got us food. If not for him, I would have left the same day. - Then despite advising the front desk that we needed to
