Jian Guo is my go to hotel every time I visit Beijing and never failed me over last 15 years.

Is very old, not to clean. Rooms are dark. Definitely needs renovation.
I booked a room showing balcony in the picture, they did give me a room with balcony but not accessible. 😂.
After complaining, they moved us to another room next day.

I liked the location in the centre of the city and easy transportation by subway near station. Breakfast was good. Money vending / changing machine was out of order.

Stayed here since access to the subway and town is really easy. Its an old hotel and the room shows it. Its not bad but the bathroom could do with a refurbishment, on the other side it has the charm of old days. One thing which is really strange is that card entry gateway to get to the elevators. It has the feeling of a subway or an office gentry.
One highlight is the breakfast. I am only sorry I could not try it all. Fresh chinese delicacies and also Western options.

We had some problems with the first room they gave us because there was no water pressure. They transferred us to another room where everything worked better. Their air conditioning system was noisy though. Also, the carpet was dirty and smelled a little. Most hotels nowadays have replaced the carpeting with luxury vinyl or hardwood flooring. They have a breakfast buffet available for an extra ¥100 per person. Even at half that price it would have been too much. Many nearby restaurants within a short walking distance offer a much better breakfast for less than half the price.
On the positive side, they had a fitness center with many machines for to work the arms and belly in addition to your standard treadmills. They also kept the refrigerator well stocked with free bottled water.
