First, I don’t think anyone likes to leave a review that is not great. I love to leave reviews sharing information about a great place I’ve found to stay or eat. Sadly, this is not one of those reviews. I’m writing this to inform others of our experience because this consumed a significant portion of our six-night holiday and I wish had been forewarned because if I had known what I know now, I would have steered clear of Le Menara. Importantly, Le Menara is a good lesson in expectation management, or mismanagement. Le Menara was promoted to us, by a trusted travel agent who had inspected the property personally (pre-pandemic) as a 5 star resort. What we found is not what I consider to meet the expectations one would have of a 5 star hotel; and not what is promised on Le Menara's website. When we arrived at around 3pm (after an excellent transfer with an excellent driver in a great vehicle) our plan was to get our bags into our room, then go to the bar for a snack, a couple of drinks and to work out our plans for our stay. We had pre-booked and paid for three nights, inclusive of breakfast. So, we went to the bar and were handed a very limited drinks list and informed (after significant difficulties in communication) that there was no food at the bar, or available in the entire resort at that time, not even bar nuts and that food serving times were limited to buffet service at limited times. I asked about room service and was told it was not offered at Le Menara. We were also really confused about whether there really were two restaurants (L’Amore and Le Sea - we had wandered to the beach and could not work out where Le Sea was based on the photos we had seen online). So, we sat at the bar and started to look at TripAdvisor, to see what others had said about Le Menara…and started lining things up…there are numerous “Bravo” flags and signs around the place and we noted reviews that talked about Le Menara being focussed on all inclusive experiences; and about the hotel being grand structurally, in a stunning location, with extremely sub-standard food, beverage and service. One review in particular, by a “Suzanne P” from Oxford in the UK stood out (and ultimately turned out to be very reflective of our experience in the end). Anyway, we decided to make an effort to have the best experience we could at Le Menara, keeping in mind what those TripAdvisor reviews said (noting some were positive) but one review mentioned rat faeces in the bed, so, we returned to the room, pulled back the sheets and the bed appeared to probably be clean but there were nasty yellow stains on the sheets (see attached photo). My partner phoned reception to ask for the bed to be re-made with clean sheets (which was done quickly and with no drama) and went down to reception to talk to a manager, so he could better understand how the place worked and how we could make the best of it. After a while, my partner returned with a manager and we had a conversation which inclu
