This summer we had the opportunity to stay at Hotel Emeraude during our trip to France, and I must admit that our experience fell far short of our expectations. The hotel has its fair share of shortcomings, and the pictures when booking are far from the truth. One of the aspects that left much to be desired was the overall maintenance of the property. The whole property was neglected over many years, with the French charm long gone. This is a money making machine at lowest possible cost. It would be encouraging to see the hotel management pay more attention to regular maintenance routines. The French charm is often a bit shabby, but in a still stylish and nice way. This is something else. When approached with our concerns, hotel management replied: "Well, you rarely get what the picture says at McDonalds either." Brutal and honest. In terms of cleanliness, it was fair, but there were a few issues that caught our attention. There were ants in the bathroom, which was an inconvenience. The staff suggested to spray the apartment with insect spray, but we politely declined. Additionally, the shower area did have some mold in the ceiling, which was disappointing. While this is not uncommon in humid environments, it would be beneficial for the hotel to invest in more thorough cleaning routines and proper ventilation to maintain a hygienic environment for guests. As for the beds, I found them to be quite firm. Personal preferences may vary, but in my case, they were so uncomfortable I struggled to find a restful sleep. It would be beneficial if the hotel offered a variety of mattress options to cater to the preferences of different guests. On a positive note, the staff at Hotel Emeraude were generally polite and willing to assist when approached. However, them offering to clean the room did nothing towards the overall neglect and low standard. In summary, our stay at Hotel Emeraude was disappointing due to the lackluster maintenance and the run down sub par standard, presence of ants in the bathroom, mold in the shower, and uncomfortable beds. With some attention to detail and an improved commitment to cleanliness, this hotel has the potential to provide a more satisfactory stay for its guests. My verdict is that better, more authentic and charming accommodation can be found for less in Antibes.
