Shangri-La's Hambantota Golf Resort and Spa, Sri Lanka

Despite being a 5-star hotel in Sri Lanka, our initial experience was subpar. The room we were allocated seemed hastily arranged, lacking even basic amenities like towels. Despite calling reception multiple times, the room wasn't cleaned promptly, and we only received water the next day. The overall experience, excluding breakfast and the scenic outdoor location, fell short of expectations. Throughout the night, power interruptions were frequent, causing the AC and other devices to go off briefly before backup kicked in. The hotel staff's knowledge and efficiency in managing guest requests were lacking. During dinner, we observed identical spreads placed in three different corners, offering limited variety. The cost of approximately 8,000 rupees appeared disproportionately high compared to city hotels, considering the taste and variety of the buffet. While the hotel boasts picturesque views and a serene location, experiencing genuine hospitality may require patience and multiple requests. If you seek a peaceful location, it may suffice, but for a truly satisfying hospitality experience, it might be worth reconsidering unless you are prepared for persistent follow-ups.

We had an unforgettable stay at Shangri-La Hambantota. Highly recommended. By far the best hotel experience we had in Sri Lanka. Beautiful welcome with an Easy & quick check-in/ check-out process. Very Clean & spacious rooms with beautiful views! Loved the sweet platter that we got. Such a sweet gesture. Very tasty food, Loads of different cuisines, Very Large buffet and specially the kid’s buffet with separate tables, chairs, plates & cups for kids which I have never seen. 3 Beautiful swimming pools, Beautiful Environment, very clean & large indoor play area for kids, loads of other games, play areas & activities,Beach access & what not! It’s a complete package. Each & every staff member is very friendly, very kind & very helpful! Exceptional Service from security to the managers. House keeping staff is excellent. There was boy from kandy who was on duty(25th & 26th Jan 24), unfortunately I cant remember his name, his service was really good & quick. Have to mention the staff at Bojunhala restaurant. Firstly chef Ruwin for his exceptional service & very tasty food. Such a kind chef. He was always attending to everyone and completing their requests. Always checked on baby’s food and provided everything that’s needed. And Chef Thihansa made some really yummy pancakes & waffles and she served us a special mini lamb burger which was super yum! Madhu’s service was excellent. Really quick & very helpful. And when we asked if the job is hard & tiring she told us they love the job specially because of how the hotel & their bosses treat them. It was such a rare thing to hear but it made us love the hotel even more! Umayanga was also really helpful. Very special mention to Dayan who made the Yara Tea! The best yara tea we’ve ever had. Perfection! I can go on & on about this amazing place but I will stop now because we will be back soon! Highly recommended for everyone! Thank you Team Shangri-La Hambantota! ❤️

We had a wonderful experience at the hotel and the kids pool was a huge attraction for our 7 year old! The hospitality provided to us by the team at the hotel was wonderful and a big thank you to Kodi and the team for making our son’s birthday extra special with the beautiful cake

A great eco-friendly resort and a perfect area to relax and base yourself if also wanting to venture out to local safari (Yala etc) , elephant Santa, whale Watching in Marissa . The rooms were great as was Housekeeping. The main buffet restaurant serving breakfast and dinner was really good and all the chef happy to make food to order if the vast menu was not enough! We had an issue with check in but was resolved by manager Ashan Fernando to our satisfaction with some complimentary additional service ! Much appreciated. Spa was great.

A wonderful stay at this hotel, fabulous food and facilities. The hotel is a great location to explore, we did the Ella tour which was fantastic. Close to both safari parks a thoroughly wonderful stay . The staff are exceptional and nothing is too much trouble. A mention to Madui in the restaurant she is so helpful. The chiefs are all on hand to create any dishes. The reception staff, pool staff and not forgetting the cleaning and gardening staff that make it beautiful. The Golf bar is a must to see the peacocks and the monkeys, wonderful staff.

One of the best kitchen staff you will ever see. Mr Samantha Rathnayaka (chef)and his kitchen staff will personally come and attend to your needs. You can ask to make personal dishes for your likings. You should stay atleast 2 nights since hotel is full of activities. Hotel provides you three different pool types. You can keep your kids to play area it’s something like day care center with professionals. Awesome hotel for families with little kids

Lovely hotel for a daycation. Had a great day here using the facilities great pool, restaurant and lovely staff. Only downside was having to leave early to rejoin our ship so missed the afternoon tea which I hear is splendid. Will definitely look at staying at Shangri-La when booking my next long haul trip

Travelled with a large group as part of a cricket tour. Excellent service especially from the restaurant manager and staff who looked after the boys. We were moved to this hotel as a last minute change to the itinerary. The hotel looks amazing, big rooms and great facilities.
