Had a nice relaxing stay at the W Algarve. This is a W property so you have to expect their to be music bumping, this property was less offensive as far as the volume than other W hotels I've stayed at. Cool modern building with stunning grounds. You can tell they put some thought into the landscaping, makes for a nice place to take a stroll and it is a bit of a stroll to the beach. I liked that there was some non-valet parking in front. Room was quite expansive and nicely appointed, was upgraded to a Spectacular room with Ocean View as a Marriott Elite member. Also received a bottle of Portugese sparkling wine and a couple pastel de nata as a welcome gift, which was a nice touch. Their concierge (Whatever Whenever in W-speak) contacted me before hand to inquire about any special requests before arrival which was appreciated. Overall staff members were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was included, not sure I would pay €35 for it though. It's the same exact buffett breakfast you'll get at any other 4-star and above Marriott property around. Why not have more locally curated items? Sure there was paste de nata, but the cheese/charcuterie selection seemed like it was just picked up from the local grocery store. One day grabbed some hummus and ceviche at the pool bar - the hummus wasn't anything better than you could make yourself and the ceviche was equally as uninspired. It's disappointing to pay €36 for something you could have made yourself and that was without drinks. This is an area where Marriott falls short compared to Hyatt, specifically their Andaz properties - Andaz has fun, inventive menus whereas Marriott sticks with run-of-the-mill. Meh. Also made use of the spa area during my stay. Massage was fantastic and reasonably priced. The spa area, however, was a disappoin**ent. The hot tub was not hot, maybe barely body temperature. The steam room had a cool option to select scent infusions which didn't seem to work. The relaxation area had only three loungers and just plain water, no spa water at a spa? Finally the spa is in the building the faces the road so you get to listen to traffic in an area that's supposed to be relaxing.
