Atlantica Amalthia Beach Hotel - Adults Only

Very relaxed and well located adults only hotel, very clean, very quiet and some of the best staff we have ever met. We had just returned home from three weeks road tripping in Florida and the Bahamas and we decided we needed another holiday, to relax from the previous holiday. So off to Crete to an Adults Only hotel, the idea being to chill at the hotel. We could have but decided to rent a car and put in some sightseeing as well. The hotel was an excellent base for exploring and also for relaxing. We were on Half Board so we avoided the crowds in the evening jostling for a place to eat.

This was our 2nd trip to the hotel having first stayed in May 2023, on both times we stayed in the new part in a room overlooking the garden and pool at lower level, groundfloor the 1st time and upperfloor the 2nd time - you can hear the road in this section when the balcony door is open and indeed when using the lower level pool but it's not too obtrusive. Naturally, I found there is a greater level privacy with an upper floor room. The rooms are different between the floors, at ground floor you enter and exit via the front terrace meaning there is full wall at the back of the unit that allows for a separate sink unit to the loo & shower, upstairs you access the room from the back corridor meaning the bathroom is all in one. Note: the sinks are of a modern, trough like design and don't have a plug, so not like a basin which you can fill up, the shower is very powerful and leaves the bathroom floor very wet, but it is also heated so once mopped up with a towel it will dry fairly quickly. I found the bed comfortable once I was in it, it was a bit high for me, and squidgy - memory foam mattress type, but it was supportive, from somebody who prefers a firmer mattress I found it very comfortable, the bed bases are flimsy and do move slightly as you get in but it's not a massive issue. Robes, slippers and a hairdryer are available in the rooms as is a Nespresso machine but pods are not replenished. As other reviews have mentioned there is a charge to use the sunbeds on the beach, 20 Euros/day (if I recall correctly) which we paid no issue on days when we wanted to sunbathe, you do get water I thought it was just one bottle each, but when I went to the bar to purchase more I was told it was free and so it seems it is free water all day, i think the hotel could improve by being clearer with guests about the charge and what it includes - wet flannels are also dished out as are melon pieces, but it's a bit haphazard. The sunbeds at the pool by the beach fill up very quickly (well I should say fill up with towels very quickly) as do the front row sunbeds at the beach. Beach towels are provided and can be exchanged each day at at the spa, where you will also be offered a chance to explore the menu of treatments available at the spa (captive audience). I was genuinely interested in this but found the treatments on offer too expensive, they make it much better value to buy a 'package' which then whilst better value, it works out being very high cost and I imagine quite a long experience, the lady working in the spa is lovely and works hard running the spa and servicing guests with towels and dishing out the wet flannels on the beach. We stayed B&B. Breakfast was generally good with the usual offerings - continental and cooked, including leftovers from the previous day's dinner (ha!) I mostly enjoyed eggs with a small bread roll and salad followed by a nice strong coffee and cake - the cake was delicious. The restaurant area got very busy

Overall it was a very well run hotel with some of the friendliest staff one could care to meet. Breakfast was a very good buffet with a wide variety of breads, meats, cheese, fruit and a cooked breakfast section including a chef who would make omelettes to order. We had a beach view room with a patio that led out to the pool. The room was of a good size and well appointed. In fairness the bathroom was a bit tired and we did have a bath plug issue however it was fixed in good time. The hotel is on the beach, which was very well maintained and accessed via the pool and restaurant area. The only mistake we made was going half board. Next time we go, and there will be a next time, just B&B. The a'la carte menu is too good to be so restricted by a set dining option.

We are here now for a week's stay, lovely hotel, great that pool backs onto beach,so you have the best of both worlds, would have got 5 stars...room could do with bit of refurb, but was clean,and please invest in some new white guest towels! Also we were supposed to have a garden view but we were overlooking a car park! Hey..but that aside its great! Evening meals great,great service as well,definitely recommend!!

We had a room in the original part of the hotel, overlooking the pool and beach which was beautiful (and the sunbed around the pool were really comfortable). We booked B&B only. The breakfast was excellent and we discovered a number of great restaurants within 10 minutes walk of the hotel for dinner, all overlooking the beach and serving great food. We did eat in the hotel restaurant by the beach a number of times which was good as well. Staff at the hotel were excellent and really helpful. We also visited Chania - the bus runs regularly and you can pick it up close to the hotel. My only caveat about this hotel is the music that starts at the snack bar by the pool at 10 am. Although this won't bother most people, I found it intrusive (and not "calm and relaxing") Most of the music played was not what I would choose to listen to.

Friendly, helpful staff - especially the outdoor bar staff. We were in the section nearest the beach. Lovely pool right by the beach. Great service. We arrived at 2 a.m. and the kind night receptionist carried our heavy bags to our room. As we left, two young women lugged them down the stairs for us. Close to many other restaurants too. Easy to get the bus into Chania. Quiet.

Excellent hotel with great, attentive staff. Food, location and facilities surpassed expectations. The hotel was an oasis in a reasonably busy area - very quiet and relaxing. Would like to highlight the wonderful staff, in particular Tattiana and Joanna on reception, who were wonderful hosts throughout. Also, the bar team were amazing, particularly Andreas, George and Rafial who looked after us really well. Highly recommend this hotel if you want a great Crete experience!
